Bangladesh Express Co Ltd has been the exclusive licensee of Federal Express Co Ltd since its inception in 1991. With a fleet of 100+ Vehicles and a workforce of more than 500 employees BECL is responsible for each and every operation of FedEx in Bangladesh. At present BECL is authorized to serve its customer base with FedEx IP (International Priority) service. Except this another service FedExIE (International Economic) is also available for inbound shipments from UAE only. It is also to be mentioned that BECL has to deal with both inbound and outbound shipments to and from Bangladesh. To maintain the FedEx service standard in Bangladesh, BECL has to accommodate a good number of technological features in its Day-to-Day Operations. Most common equipments in use by BECL are FedEx Super Tracker, Wireless Trunk Radio, Cell Phones, Landline Telephones, Computers and Miscellaneous IT equipments. As the name implies, FedEx Super Tracker is proprietary FedEx equipment which is inseparable from FedEx operations. Super Tracker is a sophisticated barcode scanning device which is portable, robust and is able to store data in it for extended period of time. Each shipment from receive to delivery is scanned several times by Super Trackers. Then Scanned Data are downloaded from these Trackers to FedEx equipments on BECL premises in Dhaka and routed to FedEx systems at Memphis, USA by Network Routers. FedEx database in Memphis is accessible in real time by any Computer which has FedEx Open-Up session installed. Bangladesh Express Co. Ltd avails this state-of-art technology by its own computer Network. It should also be added that these Super Trackers would soon be replaced by FedEx Digital Assistants, which, are refined PDA (Personal Digital Assistants) with touch screen options. Backbone of BECL network is located at Dhaka. The network in Dhaka is connected with Memphis, USA via one 64 kbps Frame Relay link. Three other locations Banani, Gulshan and Chittagong are connected directly with it. Banani and Chittagong is linked up with Dhaka via 128 kbps Fiber Links while Gulshan is connected via a 19.2 leased line. Other BECL locations and World Service Centers connect with Dhaka via Demand Dial connections. All of these locations including the dialup connections are able connect to Memphis at any time through the BECL Dhaka Network and Gateways. Other two mentionable
devices in use by Bangladesh Express Co Ltd are Wireless Trunk Radio System
and Cell Phones. These two devices are used to co-ordinate between
Dispatchers, Couriers and other BECL staffs. Although BECL is ready to pick up shipments from customer locations on Call, we also do have World Service Centers open for Walk-In customers. Our Banani W.S.C is open round the clock (24 x 7 x 365). All the other W.S.C s are open from 8 am to 11 pm at night. Bangladesh Express Co Ltd has
